Pike angling is particularly good with fly fishing for the species becoming increasingly popular.

The standard methods of dead baiting and spinning are popular. Species management policies of the fishery board make it illegal to use livebait when fishing for pike or any species in Ireland. Pike are also a protected species in Ireland, these regulations control the amount of Pike an angler can keep and can be found on our website.
Fly fishing using an 8/9 wt rod with floating line and a wire leader is fantastic sport. The bigger the fly you can fish the better. You might also try poppers (surface flies) which splash on the surface as they are retrieved. Watching a take is a truly exhilarating experience. Find out more about flyfishing for pike.
All pike should be returned ALIVE to the water. Be a good sport!
