FOR WEEKENDED SUNDAY THE 4th OF OCTOBER 2009
No catches to report.
3 fish caught on Beat 1 and 2 of the Laune.
The last day of the season brought news to me of some good fishing and good fish being caught by members. On the day of the All Ireland football final Johnny Sullivan Tralee had a fish of 14 lbs at Johnston's and Willie Conway had a lovely fresh fish that day also. The fish of the season must go to Sean O'Callaghan Tralee who caught and landed 19.5 lbs fish on the worm fishing Tullig House fishery on the 24th of September. A titanic battle lasting half an hour and as Sean describes it, this frightening apparition of a fish covered in weed repeatedly breaking the surface during the struggle. This is one of the many big fish that have been met during the past few years that did not get away. There were 12 fish reported from Laune Angler's waters for the last two weeks of the season and four from Beat 3. The low water for the last week was disappointing for local and visiting anglers, especially when you consider the kind of water we had during most of the Summer. Most members of Laune Anglers would say that it was a disappointing year and others would say it was no worse than any other recent year but you had to be lucky to meet a fish, nothing new there!!!

(REPORT OF BILLY DOWNES, CLUB SECRETARY) Angling Report 21st September 2009 (Email to Laune Angling Report)
This is the week when it all started happening!! There was news of two fish of 11.5 lbs being caught and most anglers who were out fishing met or caught fish. One of the 11.5 lbs fish fell to Conor O'Mahony of Castleisland. On Thursday Conor caught a coloured 6lbs fish which he returned only to be rewarded with, as he tells it the best play from any fish he caught over a 60 year angling life after a battle that lasted half an hour he eventually 'scull dragged' the 11.5 bar of silver to the net while sitting exhausted on one of our bridges over a small side stream. Mike Crowley Committee member of Laune Anglers had his first fish on the Laune for the year on Sunday a beautiful sea liced cock fish of 9 lbs. Richard Barry Committee member had fish on Friday and Saturday 8 lbs and 6 lbs respectively.
This writer met five fish on Saturday evening two of which were landed and met three other fish on Sunday morning before the All Ireland final between Cork and Kerry. Most of these fish were fresh fish and sea liced.
Visiting anglers from Ireland and abroad were also enjoying good fishing and were catching and reporting encounters with fish.
Anglers are hoping that this momentum being kept up for the remaining days of the season.
Billy Downes, Secretary, Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers' Association. UP KERRY!!!!

FOR WEEKENDED SUNDAY THE 13th OF SEPTEMBER 2009
No catches reported for the Lakes.
4fish caught on Beat 1 and 2 of the Laune.
Extremely high water put a slight damper on the third last week of the season for most anglers. Tommy Hurley of Tralee had the fish of his life so far a 16.5 lb fish caught on a Yellow Flying C in Johnston's. That was Tuesday and things went downhill from then.
Very few fish if any for the rest of the week. Anglers are very disappointed as the water level is ideal. Too much sun or the harsh reality that there may not be a lot of fish in the river at this point is the word on the banks of the Laune.
The hope is that when we get a few clouds that thing will improve.
2 fish caught on the river Flesk.
River very low few fish trickling in, hopefully we will get one more flood before the end of the season
No catches to report.
Monday 7th 3 fish caught weighing 5lbs, 6½ lbs and 7lbs by Bobby Flynn, Cork on a spinner and all released.
Saturday 12th 1 fish weighing 5¾ lbs Anthony O’Reilly, Cork on spinner and released.

7th September:
Angling effort very low due to high water 6 fish were reported mostly from early in the week.
This writer caught a lovely sea liced fish of seven lbs on the fly on Saturday.
There was no news of fish from Beat 3.
With the improved weather forecast and good water the fishing can only get better for the last three weeks of the season.
